Tennessee is truly a diverse and captivating state. It is home to the majestic Smokey Mountains and rolling pasturelands. The major urban areas include Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. There is something for all tastes in Tennessee. Nashville is the state capital and home to country music and The Grand Ole Opry. In the west part of the state Memphis is the world renowned home of the Blues and Elvis Presley's home in Graceland. In the East you will find Chattanooga which has the Tennessee Aquarium and Knoxville, home of the University of Tennessee.

Music and Arts across Tennessee


Known as "Music City, U.S.A.", Nashville is one of the South's fastest-growing cities, internationally renowned for its rich musical heritage and vibrant musical life as well as its distinction as the music industry's "Third Coast" ranking among the foremost cities in the world for output of recorded music. As home to The Grand Ole Opry, Nashville is also known as the world headquarters of country music. Memphis is often considered the birthplace of Rock and Roll having been the home of Elvis Presley and Graceland as well as having a rich heritage in the Blues and Jazz on Beale Street. East Tennessee is home to bluegrass and Country Music.




Tourism

The state of Tennessee is known around the world for its image of a wonderful place to explore on vacation or a place to settle down and call home. There are so many wonderful places to see and enjoy.
The state is divided into three regions which are represented in three stars on the state flag. These regions are Western Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and Eastern Tennessee.


The Western regions of the state are famous for Memphis and the home of the blues. Many blues performers perform live on Bealle Street. The city is also famous for Graceland, the former home of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley. The city along the banks of the Mississippi River is famous for mouth watering ribs. For those who enjoy camping, boating and water sports the area known as Land Between The Lakes is the place to be. It has thousands of forested acres for your enjoyment.

 


Middle Tennessee is home to rolling hills and numerous horse farms. The State capital is located in Nashville. Nashville is also referred to as "Music City" and is known as the home of Country Music. A little south of the city you will find Franklin which has a traditional downtown area with wonderful shops and restaurants. History buffs will also enjoy Franklin as it was the scene of one of the major battles in the American Civil War. There are numerous sites preserved around the city commemorating this battle that took the lives of nearly 10,000 men wearing blue and gray from both the North and the South. Also located in Middle Tennessee in the town of Lynchburg is Jack Daniels Distillery. You are invited to take a tour of this world famous whiskey maker which is listed on the National Historic sites register. Lynchburg is an old fashioned town; the likes of which you may have thought no longer existed. A charming town square surrounds the 100 year old courthouse. You will soon be browsing leisurely through a variety of unique shops. No need to hurry. Just stop and chat awhile. Life moves at a slower pace in Lynchburg.

 



The east part of Tennessee is known for the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Smokey Mountain National Park. Located next to the park are the family destinations of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Pigeon Forge is the location of Dollywood, a fantastic amusement park with numerous family activities. The next door neighbor to Pigeon Forge is Gatlinburg. Sitting backed up to the Smokey Mountains the town has a truly beautiful setting with a river running through it. This area boasts tremendous shopping opportunities and numerous outdoor activities such as river rafting and hiking. The city of Chattanooga is in southeast Tennessee and is famous for Rock City and the Tennessee Aquarium, one of the largest Aquariums in the US. It is also well-known for the site of the battle of Lookout Mountain during the American Civil War.
